SEGA Has Lots to Offer

The rumors of SEGA entering the market to produce software for online casinos are very exciting and could mean many things.  SEGA could benefit greatly from expanding the platforms for which they provide software.  Online casinos, however, are likely to benefit far more than SEGA.

When SEGA decided to back out of the console designing business and made way for the Sony Playstation and the Microsoft Xbox many people thought they were throwing in the towel.  In fact SEGA was just rethinking their approach to an industry they have been a part of for decades.  While they enjoyed periodic successes with their consoles, they were really able to consistently compete with classic games like Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Virtual Fighter.  SEGA just stuck to what they did best and continued creating games for third party platforms.  Online casinos are still a young industry yet and SEGA will bring decades of software designing experience with them.

In online casinos today there is only a handful of software designing companies.  The involvement in SEGA would mean that competition would get that much fiercer in an already competitive industry.  While smaller companies may not like the idea of a giant like SEGA getting involved, it will force bigger online casinos software designers like Microgaming to step up the bar.  When companies compete, the consumer wins.  That is the basic philosophy behind consumerism.  SEGA has enough of a following to start attracting the online gaming crowd that frequents online casinos.  Tomb Raider was one of the earliest examples of a classic video game making a smashingly successful cross over to online casinos.
