US Not So Hostile

At times it may seem that the United States is a very hostile environment for online casinos.  With laws banning the pastime and government agencies dedicated to making the lives of anyone related to the online casino industry a living hell, it feels like online casinos are a far distance from ever receiving regulation.  However with all of that hostility there are some major avenues for online casinos to take the fast track toward regulation.

The United States government, the Justice Department in particular seems to have a personal vendetta against online casinos.  Only a few month ago $34 million worth of deposits from over 27,000 online gamblers were frozen in the New York banking system.  Then who can forget the mad plan of Governor Steve Beshear to seize the domain name of 141 online casinos.  The most recent disappointment came when the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association lost its case against the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission over the constitutionality of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

Regardless there is wiggle room for online casinos.  Internet gambling only violates laws in six states.

“There are 44 states where this is an opportunity for Internet gaming to become regulated and normalized,” was the way that Joe Brennan, chairman of the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association interpreted that data.

It would help if there was more unity among the members of the gambling community but even the American Gaming Association is split on their policy toward online casinos.
