Harrah's Big Gamble Harrah’s Entertainment is moving forward as if online casinos are already legalized in the United States. 888 is not exactly the US Justice Department’s favorite company. The have declined a settlement with the Justice Department on more than one occasion. If things go south with Representative Barney Frank’s online casinos bill, Harrah’s Entertainment could lose a lot of money. It is not as if Harrah Entertainment only does business in the United States or that online casinos are not legal in almost one hundred territories. But the United States Justice Department has not given up the hunt for online casinos and companies that facilitate them reaching American players. Harrah’s Entertainment may be hinging the success of Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment on whether or not online casinos are legalized in the United States. It is almost a guarantee that if HR 2266 and HR 2267 fail in the house this year that the Justice Department will likely step up their efforts to enforce the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act when it goes into effect in December of this year. However, if the gamble pays off, and online casinos are legalized in the United States by the end of the year as promised by Barney Frank, Harrah’s Entertainment will be in a great position. They will have gotten the jump on all other major brick and mortar casino operators in the North America by getting involved in the growing online casino industry. The move is sure to solidify Harrah’s place at the top of the food chain for quite some time. |
