No Luck for Online Casinos

Unfortunately boys and girls it seems that online casinos have lost a major battle in the fight for legalization, but we have not lost the war.  It was a valiant effort on the part of the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association to try to get the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act stricken from the books, but it was no big surprise that the attempt failed.

It was clear from the beginning that the Judges of the US Third District Court of Appeals were not buying in to iMEGA’s arguments against the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.  The judges did not agree that the law was to vague to be reasonably enforced.  The judges admitted that the law was difficult to enforce, but that does not mean it is vague and the did not believe the iMEGA argument that the law was unconstitutional.

In an attempt to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and bring online casinos that much closer to legalization, the iMEGA sued the US Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission.

Although this attempt did not succeed, there is hope yet that the overall war can be one by online casinos and the Internet gambling industry.  The ruling of the judges did seem to indicate that law enforcement with regards to online casinos should be in the jurisdiction of the individual states that make up the Union.  Additional good news is that more than one congressman has introduced legislation that suggests the legalization of online casinos and other forms of online gambling.
