Fight Until the End

What exactly is the message the Justice Department is trying to send the world?  Online casinos are verge of being regulated in the United States and country after country is opening their arms to the industry, yet the Justice Department only seems to be expanding their persecution of online casinos.  For the first time the Justice Department may actually reach across boarders to enforce the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, a law which should not even be enforced until December of this year.

“This is clearly another stab at this particular industry to show that the U.S. government is not happy to have Internet gambling take place within its borders,” said Michael Lipton, Q.C., partner at Dickinson Wright LLP.

Some believe that the US Justice Department is polishing china on the Titanic.  Online casinos do not really know any boundaries other than the Internet and the Internet knows absolutely none.  Although online casinos may be banned in the United States they are perfectly legal in almost 100 jurisdictions across the globe.  Enforcing an online casino ban is almost impossible and some say a tremendous waste of resources.  Law enforcement would be better served to spend its time fighting real crime.

“The genie is out of the bottle, the Internet is here,” continued Lipton.

“It’s impossible for the government to get into the bedrooms, offices, and living rooms and make sure that people are engaging in online gambling. This is a phenomenon that is here whether we like it or not.”
