Chinese Paradox

The Chinese people certainly are a group that has learned to live under extreme censorship.  In the name of preserving the culture, the Chinese government has passed all sorts of censorship measures.  Online casinos from foreign providers are banned because foreign companies have been accused of being responsible for the games of the most objectionable content.

China has been under communist rule for 60 years now.  There is no doubt that the people are very familiar with the government’s measure to “protect” them from outside influences.

Now in addition to keeping out foreign online casinos, the Culture Ministry has passed legislation that forbids games that depict objectionable content, such as drug use, obscenities, gambling, or crimes such as rape, vandalism and theft.

All of these topics have been placed under the vague category of “against public morality and the nation's fine cultural traditions.”

“Such online games promote the glorification of mafia life . . . and are a serious threat to the moral standards of society causing vulnerable young people to be adversely affected,” stated a noticed released by the Culture Ministry.

Modern China is a very interesting country.  It is at once highly advanced and at the same time dreadfully barbaric, especially when it comes to the rights of the individual.  Now players not only cannot spend their money the way they would like, they also are being dictated to what they want and what they are allowed to be entertained by.  However China leads the world in Internet users – roughly 298 million.
