Danish Promise

There is no question that the United States, with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in place and the failure of Barney Frank to introduce legislation to counteract its implementation, is well behind progressive Europe and their attitude toward online casinos and online gambling.  However, of the countries in the European Union, which offers the most market opportunities for online casinos and online gambling companies?

A new study from law firm Horten Group and MECN reveals that Denmark appears to be the front runner for online gambling liberation among both the countries of the European Union and Scandinavian countries.

The conclusion drawn from the study is that Denmark and responded best to the growing need for legislation to maintain a health online gambling market.  Part of the cause for Denmark’s liberal standpoint on online casinos comes from the pressure applied by the European Union.

The European Union has been very hard on countries attempting to protect their local gambling market by creating laws against online casinos.  The European Union has showed zero tolerance for such protectionism.  As a matter of fact the European Union has also been very instrumental in applying such international pressure to the United States to get them to change their laws against online casinos.

Denmark is also in a position to become a role model for the Scandinavian countries.  It is likely that other Scandinavian countries will model their online gambling and online casino legislation based on the success and failure of what they Danish government decides to try.
