Delay for UIGEAIt does not appear that there is anyone in the federal government that really thinks the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is a good idea. The law has had to go through so many hoops and delays just to be recognized. It is perhaps for the best. Unfortunately this does not necessarily mean that there are a lot of supporters in the federal government for online casinos. The dislike for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act may just be a luck side effect. Activation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has been delayed for yet another six month. Great news. The decision came as a result of pressure from legislators that do actually support regulated online casinos in the United States. However the decision was in the hand of the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve. Their reasoning for going along with the delay likely had a lot less to do with support for online casinos. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act calls upon financial institution to monitor and police transactions to and from illegal online gambling operations. This is a task that the financial industry says will cause undue stress during a time when they are already under a lot of pressure. The issue that the financial industry has with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is its lack of clarity. In a mad dash to thwart online casinos the conservatives that smuggled the law into constitution forgot to define what exactly is considered illegal online gambling. There are certainly a lot of legal online gambling establishments that could be adversely affected by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. |
