Alabama Beyond Online Casinos While many states in the nation are figuring out what to do with online casinos, gambling in general seems to be in danger in Alabama. Senator Scott Beason has proposed that state residents vote on whether gambling laws should stand as is or if all forms of gambling should be outlawed in the states. This ban would not include online casinos, its hard to ban something that is not legally even recognized by the state government. Some are concerned the Beason may succeed in his ambition to ban online casinos but most are convinced that the bill does not have very strong legs to stand on and will have a difficult time gaining any support if any at all. So far the only cosponsor for his bill is Senator Hank Erwin. In the meantime Alabama has other politicians like Houser Representative John Rogers proposing that online casinos be regulated and legalized in the state of Alabama. Representative Rogers believes that taxing online casinos could be very helpful in generating more revenue for the stat in order to counteract serious budget cuts made as a result of the recession. The United States has not yet fully recovered from the recession and at times like this it is hoped the practical heads will prevail. The people in support of gambling in Alabama realize that cutting gambling will only hurt the state. It will lead to more job losses and the state will also have to miss out on helpful gambling revenues. Opponents of gambling in Alabama are of course concerned about the age old issues of crime and traffic. |
