Online Casinos Pushed Back

No matter how much one supports online casinos, it cannot be denied that the Congress has more important issues to tackle than legalizing the controversial gaming method.  The country is still very much on the road to economic recovery.

It is unfortunate but understandable that Congress will not even get a chance to discuss online casinos and regulation before September at the earliest.  The Poker Players Alliance does not believe Congress will get around to HR 2267 until September.  The Poker Players Alliance was formed shortly after the Bush Administration passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act back in 2006.

As Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank has a lot of sway.  But, he would be neglecting his duties if he were to pretend that online casinos is the most pressing financial issue confronting the Congress.

Frank has become some what of the poster boy for legalizing online casinos.  Only a few weeks ago he introduced both HR 2267 and HR 2266.  Both laws were designed for the overall goal of legalizing online casinos.  One will begin the process of establishing regulations for the controversial industry, the other would put a hold on the enforcement of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

The biggest problem with the delay is that Frank expected to get legislation passed quickly enough to put the breaks on a December deadline for banks to abide by the rules of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.  This delay makes that seem highly improbable.
