Online Casinos Won't KillThere are so many things that are unhealthy for the average citizen. If it were not such an infringement on human rights, it would be almost comical to point out the ridiculous nature of the things that governments choose to ban “for the sake of the common good.” Several things legally sold in the United States will, in fact, without a question, kill you. Cigarettes are a prime example. The verdict is in. If you smoke enough cigarettes, it will blacken your lungs and you will die of some related health complication. Are cigarettes illegal? No, you can buy them at virtually any corner store in the United States. Online casinos are banned in the United States. Why? Because it is believed that people having that much access to casino gambling in their house, 24 hours a day, will cause a problem gambling epidemic. Gambling could lead to problem gambling, it may lead to bankruptcy, it is possible that families will be torn apart. Online casinos are illegal because of the possible financial damage that it could cause America’s families. Never mind the fact that several studies have shown that there is no problem gambling epidemic being started because of online casinos, in fact problem gambling levels are the same if not lower with online casinos and brick and mortar casinos; neither of which are at epidemic levels. Meanwhile, cigarettes are perfectly legal. If the government wants to get involved in the personal lives of its citizens, it may want to use sounder reason when deciding which vices are worse for a person than the other. Death is far more permanent than bankruptcy. |
