Wake Up Call for TelevisionBrick and
mortar casinos have been very concerned in recent years that online
casinos will be replacing them in a not too distant future. However it is
becoming clear that online casinos and brick and mortar casinos are likely
to be joined in some weird combination that will make both industries more
popular.
It is becoming more apparent to me that brick and
mortar casinos are not the industry that need to be afraid, it is the
television and cable industry that might need to be on guard. This fact
was illuminated to me by study of statistics that compared the number of
online casino users and interactive television users.
At one point in time the television was the very
center of home entertainment. So it followed that companies began finding
ways of making televisions more interactive. Interactive television
gambling was born and there was a lot of excitement. However over the
year the computer has developed into the ultimate interactive experience
venue. On the gambling front online casinos are far more successful than
interactive television gambling.
It is not uncommon now to go to a person’s home and
discover that they do not have a television set. Many people would rather
purchase a good sized monitor and use their computer for all of their
entertainment needs. Flat monitors came out before the flat screen
television. It may be a sign that televisions are starting to look and
behave more like oversized computer monitors.
As long as the television industry makes the proper
adjustments, they may not go the way of the dinosaur.
