Tribes Against Online Casinos

Online casinos elicit very different reactions from various circles.  Now that Barney Frank seems to be edging close to getting HR 2267 passed, those varying opinions are getting stronger and being voiced louder.  Not much was available about the point of view of tribal casinos on online casinos.  No one was sure if they were for or against it.  However, one tribal casino chairman has made it clear that he is completely against online casinos.

Daniel Tucker, Chairman of the California Nations of Indians Gaming Associations believes online casinos will seriously harm the business of tribal gaming.  As a matter of fact, Tucker goes so far as to call online casinos the “greatest threat to Indian gaming in 20 years.”

Tucker has emerged as the newest of Frank’s opponents.  He is determined to convince the United States to maintain its ban on online casinos.  Tucker is attempting to use his organizations to assemble the countries tribal leaders in opposition to online casinos.  Just last week, tribal leaders from all over joined Tucker at the 15th California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA) Western Indian Gaming Conference at Palm Springs, California.

“The recent drive by members of Congress to legalise internet casino gambling nationwide represents the greatest threat to Indian gaming in the last 20 years,” said Tucker.

“I sought the chairmanship of CNIGA because it is my intention to lead the fight against this outrageous and unjust proposal by Congressman Barney Frank.”

Until now, Frank’s biggest opposition was the conservative right.  Tribal leaders may prove to be formidable foes.
