Grandpa Beshear

Perhaps someone forgot to give Old Grandpa Beshear his meds.  His short term memory seems to be failing on him.  I do not like giving anyone a hard time or judging an individual but Governor Steve Beshear of Kentucky is a difficult man to figure out; or he is an incredibly simple man.  No mid ground here.

All throughout 2009 Beshear played the roll as attack dog to ward of the dangers of online casinos and online gambling in Kentucky.  Instead of being straight forward and saying that he was against online casinos because they may take away gambling revenues from the state, he choose the high and mighty route and said he was simply protecting the children.  He was concerned that online casinos would expose more children to gambling and that families should be equally concerned.

Now, that same protector of the innocent has appealed to Kentucky legislators to expanded gambling in the state with slot machines.  Just this week Governor Beshear introduced his new budget plan to the Kentucky House and Senate.  An integral part of the plan involved revenues from slot machines.

Beshear stated that the millions of dollars that the state could pull in from slot machine revenues could curb the cut backs and layoffs that have been necessary in the past few months.  These are clearly the words of a man that has no problem with gambling, but offshore gambling operations make money off of Kentucky residents is another story.  Shame does not seem to be one of the Governor’s strong points.
