No Debate on SportsThere
are a lot of injustice that have been done in the United
States with regards to online casinos and online
gambling. However, there is one thing that I do not
know if I can get on the case of the United State
government about. The Department of Justice has gone
after a handful of gambling operators that condone
online sportsbooks. Wagering on sports is not legal in
the United States except in Las Vegas. Everywhere else
the practice has been banned.
The reasoning behind banning sports
wagering is to maintain the integrity of sports in the
United States. While I want to support all things
related to online casinos, the companies that took
sports wagers from United States citizens had to know
they were playing with fire. Although the Wire Act was
created long before online casinos it does clearly state
sports wagering as illegal. The other laws do not
clearly define online gambling, but sports betting is
sports betting no matter how it is done.
Now the ban on sports betting is
not exactly the best way to achieve the goal of reducing
unethical practices in sports. You can bet major wagers
are made on important American sporting events in the
million and maybe even billions, but the gambling market
is underground. When things go underground they are out
of the public eye and they are almost impossible to
regulate.
In some European countries online
sports betting has been legalized so that law
enforcement can keep tabs on irregular betting trends.
