Obama Finally Comes Through Well it took a full year, but it appears the excitement over the Obama administration has finally paid off for online casinos. When Obama was running against John McCain more than a year ago, advocates for online casinos and online gambling were excited to have a poker playing President in office and were sure that if Obama were elected he would kill the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and regulate online casinos. However, November came around and nothing happened. Well, I should not say nothing, the Obama administration became bogged down with the problems of the past administration which included two wars and a recession. To be more accurate, nothing happened on a federal level to aid online casinos. Finally, the Obama Administration has finally shown some love for online casinos. The United States Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve have effectively postponed enforcement of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act for another six months. This was the law that was designed to destroy online casinos in the United States by attacking it at the financial source. It is not secret to the administration that Representative Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, has been trying to pass legislation that will regulate online casinos. He has also been trying to pass a bill that would postpone the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act just long enough for him to pass a law that would take its place. Now he does not have to, Barack finally came through. Now Frank can focus regulating online casinos. Hopefully six months is enough time to cut through the red tape of the federal government. |
