Hope On the Horizon

We found ourselves in a similar position at the end of last year placing all of our hopes on the future.  Things seems so promising, it was the end of the Bush Administration that had passed the Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.  A poker playing President was finally coming to live at the White House.  Representative and Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee Barney Frank pledge to introduce legislation that would finally regulate online casinos in the United States.

Here we are at the end of 2009 with 2010 on the horizon and nothing has really changed for online casinos as far as legislation goes in this country.  However, the year ended better than it could have.  We are still riding on hope, but things look very promising and the factors that provided hope at the beginning of this year are finally starting to pull together.

Barney Frank did make good on his promise to introduce legislation that would overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.  Unfortunately he was not able to get any of them passed, though they are still on the table.  One very important piece of legislation he introduced was designed to have the enforcement of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act delayed.  Though it remains to be seen what will happen with that bill he has managed to convince the United States Treasury to delay the law which was supposed to be active at the very beginning of this month.

The willingness of the United States Treasury to delay the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act for six month at the request of Representative Barney Frank shows that the Obama Administration is interested in giving the law the much need axe.
