Crumbling Case Against Online Casinos“If I cannot keep online casinos out of my territory, I will seize their Internet domain names as if the online casinos themselves were illegal gambling devices.” I just wanted to type it out as if it were my own word and see if it still sounded like it was coming out of the mouth of a mad scientist. Well it can’t be all crazy, Governor Steve Beshear got a judge in the circuit court to go along with it. However, ever since that minor victory the case has not held up very well. They might have done better if their actions would only affect online casinos, but taking the domain name of an overseas company based on local laws could have ramifications that extend well beyond online casinos. The case for the Commonwealth of Kentucky seems to be crumbling around their ears. Their main opponent, defending online casinos, the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association only seems to be gaining momentum and can sense desperation on the part of Kentucky. The lawyers still working the case are attempting to add a whole new list of defendants. “They were counting on a big payday from our members, in the form of settlements to get their own property back, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen,” said the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming chairman Joe Brennan. “Since they don’t get one nickel from the state to pursue this, it’s clear that the drive for big money has taken over, and any sense of fair play or due process has gone out the window.” |
