High Tech GamblingIt has been called the information age for a reason. Never in the history of man has so much information on such a wide variety of topics been made so easily available. Even the most unassuming new programs seem to be overturning major stones and secrets. No secret is safe and some industries rely on secrets; particularly the gambling industry. The tennis authorities at the US Open have banned the use of Twitter from the court. A brilliant move really. Tennis has been confronted with several gambling scandals of late. The concern is that Twitter will be used to pass on sensitive information about games in progress that could jeopardize the integrity of matches for gambling purposes. First of all, hats off to the genius that figured out they could use Twitter to get the inside scoop on a tennis match and clean up big at the bookies. While Twitter does not pose a big threat to most forms of gambling, particularly online casinos, it can be very troublesome in much of the sports betting arena. I would not be surprised if Twitter is banned from other sporting events as well. Can you imagine having money on a boxing match and receiving a Tweet from a cut man that the guy you have put money on may be suffering a broken rib and his coach is considering throwing in the towel. Twitter can wreak havoc on the sports betting world. This is similar to the card counting app for the iPhone that led to the banning of the iPhone in many brick and mortar casinos. Many online casinos have decided not to even sweat the existence of the app because card counting is not a guaranteed recipe for victory. |
