Online Casinos in SightThe House Financial Services Committee has a several bill assigned to them during this current legislative session. The plan is for the committee to tackle the issue of online casinos by this fall, next month in September. That may feel like an eternity, but it is in fact just around the corner. In the mean time, Barney Frank has done a rather good job of not allowing the issue to fall to the wayside. Public appearances, such as the one he did a few weeks ago at the World Series of Poker are keeping the interest of average citizens so that they be compelled to contact their Congressional Representative and encourage them to support H.R. 2267. There is also no doubt that Frank is doing his best to make sure online casinos stay in the sights of his fellow congressman. Every week it seems there are new names to add to the list of cosponsors assigned to this bill. The number of cosponsors currently stands at 54. Online casinos have become a bigger issue than simply gambling. Barney Frank was the first to make it an issue of personal freedom. It is ironic that the party that is supposed to represent personal responsibility and business would stand in the way of an industry like online gambling. Online gambling, offering billions of dollars in tax revenues, could be exactly the thing that the government needs to address budget deficits. The business can also be helpful in jump starting the economy. Online casinos are certainly more than just an issue of gambling expansion. |
