Internet Cafe Security Whether they mean to or not, Internet cafes have been targeted by gamblers that like to frequent online casinos. It has been discovered that many Internet cafes knowingly allow players to visit online casinos; in fact, some cafes thrive off of patrons that come in for the express purpose of using online casinos. But it is a curious occurrence that gamblers would even come into a café to do an illegal activity in public. The laws that oppose online casinos do not do so directly. Laws like the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act only outlaw the use of certain payment methods. However, online casinos are not regulated in the United States so there is still some danger in visiting the sites although law enforcement will not likely go after individuals. A major reason for gamblers to frequent Internet café to gamble online – something they could easily do in the privacy of their own homes – is because they have the security of visiting online casinos on someone else’s computer. This makes their online gambling activity almost untraceable. “In a legit casino operation, I have to tax you, pay the kid who spins the ball, the girl who brings drinks, the guy watching on camera,” said Las Vegas gambling expert George Joseph. Joseph is not an advocate of gambling at unregulated online casinos. “Someone else you don't know sends you computer-generated pictures of playing cards he says you have and the playing cards he says he has. Then he tells you whether you lost,” Joseph continued. |
