Moral JudgmentThe Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was introduced back in 2006 as pork to fatten up the Safe Port Act. When questioned about the necessity of the law, the Congress stated that it was a necessary moral judgment; alluding to the dangers of problem gambling that posed by the highly accessible online casinos. However it became in credibly clear that banning online casinos with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act did very little to help anyone accept the National Football League and Horse Racing Lobbyists. Under current law, the United States forbids wagering online on games of chance; such as blackjack, backgammon, bingo, and online slots. Online gamblers are allowed to wager on state lotteries, United States horse races, and fantasy sports leagues. However poker falls in between the cracks. It has long been known and recently proven several times, in court and in study, that poker is in fact a game of skill. However, because of its close association to casinos, it is lumped in with the rest of the games offered by online casinos. It is odd that now, after a serious shift in power, the congress is making another moral judgment by pushing for the regulation of online casinos. Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank, declared it unjust to strip hardworking citizens of there personal freedom by denying them access to online casinos. In truth online casinos are being so seriously considered by both sides because the United States government is in serious need of new revenues. |
