Fantasy ProtestPerhaps it is time for the National Football League to get off of its high horse about online casinos. Maybe that is not what is going on at all. Maybe it is not that the National Football League is sincerely concerned about online casinos jeopardizing the integrity of their professional match up so much as it is that the NFL is attempting to protect their monopoly over online gambling. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act came into play back in 2006. It was supposed to have made exceptions for games of skill. That is the category under which Fantasy Football slipped permitting the law to make an exception. However poker, a game proven over and over to be a game of skill mathematically and on televised competition is still a victim of the conservative witch hunt against online casinos and online gambling. Fantasy Football is both endorsed and sponsored by the National Football League. Before a player gets to play fantasy coach and assemble his dream team of players, he has to pay the NFL a sign up fee. The success of these imaginary teams depends on the individual performance of the athletes in actual NFL match ups. Fantasy football is no more a game of skill than betting on the horses. It seems bizarre that the National Football League, after all of its grandstanding against online casinos and sports betting would allow any such activity where people can financial benefit off of the performance of its players. Then again, the NFL does make a lot of money off of Fantasy Football. |
