A Case for Online Casinos 1 The United States government had better regulate online casinos soon if for nothing at all but to save face. Conservatives that have gone after online casinos have gone after it from a moral stand point. The problem with that is if the moral arguments are given any real thought the government cannot help but look absurd if not completely hypocritical. For every moral argument against online casinos, there is an industry supported by the United States government that causes just as much harm and often worse. Preventing gambling addiction is a hot topic for conservatives attempting to bar online casinos from ever seeing full regulation. Gambling addiction can destroy families and personal finances. One family member’s inability to control their gambling habits can lead to bankruptcy, depression, and other economic and emotion strains on their family. However, excessive gambling is not nearly as wide spread or dangerous and excessive eating in the United States. The United States is at a point where the current generation could have a shorter life expectancy than the one prior. This would be the first time that has happened in history and it is because of the poor diet maintained by most Americans. Yet the Republican party did not place fighting the obesity epidemic on their Party Platform. While it is true that excessive gambling can lead to financial troubles and family stress, obesity leads to diabetes and shorter life expectancy. Before the government takes the moral high ground on online casinos, they need to look at the flaws in the food industry that are killing of American citizens.
