NFL Delaware Face OffThe National Football Leagues is working desperately to prevent Delaware from offering legal sports betting. In an effort to protect the integrity of its sporting match ups the NFL has stood up against sports betting and online casinos. The protest against regulating online casinos is a little bizarre since regulating online casinos in the United States does not mean wagering on sports is next to follow. State after state expands gambling yet it rarely if ever develops into legalizing sports betting. Only four states in the nation allow sports betting, Delaware included. However, gambling of some form is offered in 48 states. There are theories that when it comes to online casinos, the NFL is just trying to protect it United States monopoly over online gambling. Delaware may be doing the right thing for its residents in regulating sports betting through the state lottery; not that expanding gambling is ever completely altruistic. However, sports betting is widely available online. Although the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act made it illegal for financial institutions to process payments from Internet gambling operators, it is not illegal for individuals to wager on sports online. There are so many legal loopholes to get around the faulty Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Not all of these online bookies can be trusted, especially since online gambling is not yet regulated in the United States. It will be much safer for Delaware gamblers to wager on sports through their state lottery than with some unknown online operator. The NFL plans to protest the decision in court. |
