Crumbling Atlantic CityMany theories have been circulating as to the why gambling revenues in Atlantic City have suffered such serious declines. It has been suggested that Atlantic City has just had trouble competing with the new gambling competition cropping up in the Northeast. Some have even suggested that the losses can be attributed to the global recession that has been choking the entire brick and mortar gambling industry. These theories are legitimate, but the obvious should also be considered. Atlantic City is slowly starting to resemble a crumbling empire and no longer has the same charm it once had. If Atlantic really wants to compete against online casinos and convince people that it is worth the extra money to venture out to lavish hotel casinos, at the very least the hotel casinos need to not look as if they are about to topple over. One popular example of crumbling Atlantic City is Trump Marina. During a lawsuit it was reported that service and maintenance of the popular resort had so diminished that leaks were resolved by placing potted plants under them. These are simply issues that gamblers do not have to pay for or deal with when gambling at online casinos. “What is closer to home, with the amenities and smoking rules a player chooses, than home,” asked Peter Redding, a well known Atlantic City gaming insider. “Once players are turned off by physical conditions, and then realize how much they can save in rooming and transportation costs, it's easy to see them flocking to online casinos.”
