As we approach the middle of August, proponents of regulated online casinos can feel September closing in.  September is supposed to be a very important month for online casinos because that is supposedly when the House of Representatives will finally address the two bill proposed by Representative Barney Frank for the purpose of regulating online casinos.

Debates over HR 2266 and HR 2267 were put off for a while because the House Financial Services Committee, which Frank chairs, was too overwhelmed with economy issues and helping the nation through the recession.  In the meantime, Frank has built momentum behind the bills collecting several cosponsors. 

This is not the first time Frank has attempted to regulate online casinos.  He tried shortly after the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.  His efforts did not get very far in a Republican dominated government under the Presidency of George W. Bush.  Now things are quite different with the Democrats having overwhelming power over the entire congress as well as having the Presidency.  Frank’s bill have gone almost completely unopposed this time around.

“If anyone believes that this time around will not be different for Rep. Frank and his allies, then they have not been watching politics closely,” said observer Neal Bresk,

“The US needs to change their online gambling laws to show other nations that they no longer are going to disrespect international agreements.”

These are the best possible conditions anyone could hope for to finally have online casinos regulated in the United States.
